Money Tracing in Divorce and Family Matters

Your joint savings statement shows a transfer shortly before you separated. You can see what left, but the recipient is listed only by a few digits. Alibi Investigations works with a financial tracing specialist to follow the money as far as the statements, receipts and transfer records you are authorized to share will allow.

Questions about family finances

Transfers before a divorce

If money moved out of a joint account, a specialist can match the outgoing transfer to a deposit or receipt when one is available. If the trail stops at the withdrawal, the report says so.

Spending and suspected infidelity

An unfamiliar hotel or travel charge may raise questions. A specialist can match the charge to a date, merchant and amount. A card statement alone cannot tell you who stayed at a hotel or why.

Shared expenses for a child

When co-parents disagree about who paid for childcare or medical visits, a specialist can match receipts with payments and reimbursements. You can see which costs are accounted for and where a record is missing.

Where a financial trail can lead

Can you find out where joint savings went?

A transfer reference, the last digits of a destination account or a payment receipt can connect two records. If a statement shows a cash withdrawal, it may establish when and where the money came out while leaving the next step unknown.

What if I sent cryptocurrency to someone I met online?

An exchange receipt or public transaction ID gives a specialist a starting point. Public blockchain records may show later transfers. Identifying who controls a wallet is a separate question. Keep your recovery phrase and private keys to yourself.

Can I start with just one statement?

Yes. Describe the entry and the date. Alibi can discuss whether the records you already have are enough for a useful trace and what additional document could answer the question. You can make that first call before sharing any statements.

What a money trace looks like

Suppose a joint statement lists a $4,800 transfer, and a matching deposit appears on a second statement the next day. The specialist can compare the account references, dates and amounts and explain whether the entries connect. If you have only the first statement, the timeline can document the withdrawal and flag the destination as an open question.

What to have ready for the call

Choose one transfer or a short date range. Tell Alibi the approximate amount, how the money moved and which records you have. We’ll discuss the question, the likely scope and cost before you decide. Leave names, account numbers and financial documents out of the contact form.
